Railey/Tonsai Climbing (Oct 30 - Nov 6, 2009)

Rai Leh, Ton Sai (means tower in Thai) are amazing places to visit... especially so if you are climber. I'd say a must for all climbers. This place is just too special to miss. Surrounded by limestone (karst) towers and beautiful beaches in between, it's a (sport) climber's heaven. Small enough to know most of the folks after a week's stay, but enough climbing to stay for months...

Here's looking down at Rai Leh (East and West)... and Ton Sai beyond.

At night the bars come alive... but unlike the full moon parties, or other "party" beaches (like Phi Phi), things in Tonsai are much more laid back and enjoyable.

And what's a thai party with out fire dancing?

This guy's on a slackline...

See...

There are also tons of stray kittens... all very friendly... Kimbo fell in love.

Kimbo pulling hard on some limestone...

Some great bouldering as well...

Got on the sharp end a few times... I found some climbers and rented ropes and gear... some pretty cool climbs.

Over the course of our stay I got better at slacklining... eventually being able to make it across (on the second day)... and being able to stay up for a few minutes towards the end...

There are a lot of kittens on the island... and Kimbo fell in love...

Some wildlife...

Check out this monitor we spotted on our walk from West Rai Leh to Tonsai during low tide.

I saw him eat a crab 10 seconds before this was shot...

Did some deep water soloing as well... what this area is known for world wide.... it's actually a lot scarier than you think... as some of these climbs end up a full 40 meters high... doing a committing heel hook up that high is very scary...

A nice Spaniard we kayaked out to the spot with.

Then we went back with an organized group... for 20$ (700 Baht)...

Some nice snorkeling as well.. here's Kimbo, Caroline and Jason surrounded by fish on a beach on Ko Poda.
